Folks of all ages will discover something to admire and appreciate at the Huntington School District’s annual art show set for Tuesday and Wednesday, May 16-17 in the Huntington High School gym.
The sprawling exhibit will feature artwork ranging from painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and computer graphics to advertising, fashion design, photography and video arts.
Admission to the show is free and open to the public. The exhibit will showcase fantastic artwork created by Huntington students on every grade level. The pieces will include every type of media and showcase the numerous opportunities available to students in fine and computer-generated art studies.
“It is always a pleasure to have an opportunity to display the art created by students at all levels,” Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky said. “Their passion and enjoyment will surely be evident, as will the talents of our K-12 art teachers in helping them to cultivate their artistic talents. Also, don’t miss out on the fashion show on Tuesday, as it will feature some outstanding and very creative efforts from our high school fashion students.”
On Tuesday, May 16 a fashion show consisting exclusively of student clothing designs will be held at 4 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Artwork of every possible type will be exhibited throughout the day from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Residents voting on the budget and capital reserve propositions and two trustee positions will be able to conveniently visit the art show either before or after casting their ballots.
On Wednesday, May 17 the exhibits will be open to the public from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visitors are welcome to spend as much time viewing the show as they so desire on either day.
Some of the works on display will carry blue ribbons of excellence, designating the piece as one of “high merit,” in the opinion of a distinguished panel of judges that will be reviewing the exhibits.
The district’s art program has enjoyed another banner year. Huntington students have won a long list of awards in numerous contests and shows. These award winning pieces will also be on exhibit during the coming show.
