Huntington High School’s Class of 2017 will parade into Blue Devil Stadium in parallel columns on Friday at 6:30 p.m. for the school’s 156th commencement exercises. A crowd of about 2,000 is expected to attend.

The ceremony will include traditional addresses by valedictorian Steve Yeh and salutatorian Miranda Nykolyn along with Principal Brenden Cusack, Superintendent James W. Polansky and Huntington School Board President Thomas DiGiacomo.

Several seniors will take leading roles in the event. Magenta Lopez will serve as master of ceremonies. Kelly Nicoletto, Dawson Wallace, Sarah James, Kayla Ryan, Nicholas Lanzisero and Ms. Lopez will introduce various classmates and officials prior to their addresses.

Class of 2017 faculty advisors Lauren Brunoni and Kenneth Donovan will announce the names of the graduates as they make their way to the stage. Huntington School Board members will present the seniors with their diplomas.

Class of 2017 President Kelsey Miller and Vice President Allyson Arleo will announce the presentation of a gift to the high school early in the commencement program.

The Huntington High School orchestra conducted by Nicole Castaldo will perform processional and recessional selections along with the Alma Mater, which was arranged by Bill Baker.

Huntington chamber choir seniors will perform Francis Scott Key’s “Star Spangled Banner,” which will be followed by the transferring of colors by Ms. Miller and Ms. Arleo and juniors Charlotte Brosoff and Niamh Condon.

Class of 2017 members will march into Blue Devil Stadium to Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance No. 1.” The new graduates will march off the field to “New York, New York,” made famous by Frank Sinatra.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will move indoors to the cavernous high school auditorium.
