Graham Young is putting the summer break to good use. The rising Huntington High School junior recently completed an eight day Envision National Youth Leadership Forum business innovation program in New York City.

“I really enjoyed the Envision program,” Mr. Young said. I got to meet so many people from around the country and made a lot of new friends. I was able to see what it is like to create a start-up company and I learned a lot about business, specifically the development of a product and the thought process that goes into start-up companies.”

Mr. Young completed Career and Financial Management and Sports Marketing business courses with Ms. Tyree. “He was focused, worked extremely hard and showed a genuine love of learning in both courses,” she said. “Graham is the type of student that gives 110 percent to everything he puts his mind to.”

The Envision business program, which was based at St. John’s University in Jamaica, Queens, provided the teenager with plenty of opportunities for intellectual growth. “We went into New York City in order to crowdsource and get feedback for our products,” Mr. Young said. “We visited Times Square, Central Park and the New York Stock Exchange and pitched our ideas. We got to learn from guest speakers who developed successful start-up companies and they gave us really good advice.”

Ms. Tyree submitted a nomination to Envision on Mr. Young’s behalf, recommending the soon to be junior for the summer program on developing a business idea and seeing it through to fruition.

“We were able to see real businesses and watch how they operate,” Mr. Young said. “I visited Galvanize, which is an incubator for other start-ups. I got to speak to the people who work there as well as CEOs of the start-ups in Galvanize.”

After spending the previous ten months in Huntington High School classrooms, Mr. Young showed just how serious he is about growing educationally by participating in the summer business program.

“I really enjoyed this camp and I would recommend it to other students who wish to pursue a career in business and entrepreneurship,” Mr. Young said.
