Blue Devil Marching Band is Set to Roar

Huntington High School’s Blue Devil marching band is ramping up its preparations for the fall competitive season. The band’s staff has been finalized and summer camp details have been announced.

Earlier this week, Huntington School Board members approved the band’s professional staff for the fall season. The group includes Brian Stellato (director), Jennifer Schmelter (assistant director), Jason Giachetti (pep band director and battery instructor), Derek Schmelter (battery instructor), Christopher Wink (brass instructor), Samantha LoBue (lead color guard instructor), Patrick Neary (color guard instructor), Adama Mastrocola (pit instructor) and Emika Wada (woodwind instructor).

A training camp is set for Monday-Thursday, August 14-17 at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. The band will rehearse outdoors from 1-4 p.m. and again from 5-8 p.m. on each of the four days.

An all-day camp is set for Monday-Sunday, August 21-27, also at Finley. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, August 21 and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, August 22-25. Band members will rehearse on Saturday, August 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The band will be back on the Finley athletic field on Sunday at 9 a.m. A family show is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday. The general public is welcome to attend the show.

The band will march in Huntington’s Homecoming Day parade on Saturday, October 21 and perform at halftime of several football games. The Blue Devils will also perform their field show in the following competitions:

• September 17: Brentwood
• September 24: Copiague
• October 1: Huntington High School home show
• October 7: Walt Whitman
• October 8: Arlington
• October 15: Sachem
• October 21: Mineola
• October 29: State championships at Syracuse Carrier Dome
